Our Doctors

  • Dr John Grant

    John Grant

Dr John Grant graduated MBChB from University of Cape Town (UCT) in 1972. After finishing his internship at Victoria Hospital in Wynberg, he stayed on as Senior Medical Officer in the Department of Medicine, concentrating on internal medicine. Towards the end of 1977, he was approached by Dr Kelly Seymour to take over his practice at Brampton, in the heart of Claremont’s medical precinct.

“I gave myself two years to see if I liked it and liked it so much, I am still here! The best thing about general practice is the variety and getting to know the families well, seeing the kids grow up and having kids of their own.”

“I love the history of this old house, this practice, the friendly atmosphere and having highly competent colleagues around you to share knowledge and give a second opinion.”

His major interests in medicine are cardiology and asthma. John’s general interests are wide and include good wine and food, music, and sport. His sport is more like a passion than an interest! He plays league tennis and is a regular golfer, believing that a healthy body is the best medicine!

  • Dr Guy Parr

Guy is a graduate of UCT, is a registered family physician  and is a Fellow of the College of Family Practitioners.

Following John Grant’s invitation to join the practice some years ago, he and John have shared  a rewarding professional relationship as the seniors in the practice.
He has a particular interest in adult medicine and preventative health, helping to maintain optimum health—adding life to years rather  than years to life!

He is a former Lifeline councillor and hon. senior lecturer in family medicine at UCT.  Currently he also consults part time to a reassurance company and is involved in medical teaching.
Guy is married to Louise and his recreational interests include sea kayaking and exploring the back roads of the Cape and France on a mountain bike.
  • Dr Marion Anderson

Marion is a UCT graduate and is a qualified family practitioner with a masters degree in Family medicine from Medunsa.

She has previously worked in East London for twenty years running her own general practice. She has a special interest in mental health, wellness, and healthcare in the family context.

Marion recently relocated to Cape Town with her husband Steve who has been appointed deputy principal at Westerford High School. They have two daughters.

  • Dr Andrea Watkins-Neethling

Andrea graduated with an MBBch from Wits University. After completing her internship at 2 Military Hospital in Wynberg, she went on to complete her community service at The Institute for Maritime Medicine, were she remained for the following 6 years. It was there that she qualified as a diving medical officer, enabling her to perform specialised medical assessments for divers.

She also started and ran an ARV clinic and developed an interest in HIV medicine.

She served a great deal of the military’s young families and a very large retired population, leading to an interest in both geriatric medicine and child health care. These interests have carried through into her work as a GP. She has been locum at various practices around the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town until joining Brampton in May 2018. She also enjoys working with womens’ health issues and effecting lifestyle change to treat chronic medical conditions. She is a family practitioner at heart and enjoys treating the whole family!

Andrea is married and she and her husband Gareth are the proud parents of 2 young children, Olivia and Harrison. She is a keen baker and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, walking and exploring the natural beauties our wonderful city has to offer.
  • Dr Clare Knapp

It is with regret that we are informing our patients that Dr Clare Knapp is no longer practising at Brampton Practice. She has immigrated to New Zealand. We wish her well with her new adventure.
